Scenario Preview Now Live!

Following along on the hype train (choo, choo) after the MoP release date announcementcome previews for two scenarios, a new feature in the game’s fourth expansion. The two scenarios in question are A Brewing Storm, where you have to protect a brewmaster with the very pandaren name of Blanche while she brews her finest beer yet, and Greenstone Village, where you take on the forces of agitated earth spirit Hui.

Scenarios are short, queueable instances for three level 90 players of any class — no holy trinity needed. Progression is based on fulfilling story objectives instead of defeating trash and bosses. Check out the full previews for Greenstone Village and A Brewing Storm over on the official WoW site.

You can now read more about the Mists of Pandaria Scenarios feature in our updated expansion preview website! Check out our sneak peek at two of the scenarios you and your friends will be able to play in Mists of Pandaria: A Brewing Storm and Greenstone Village.

What’s a “Scenario?”

Scenarios are short, instanced adventures for three players that directly follow the stories and events in the open world. In a scenario you’ll be presented with a number of goals you need to achieve in order to progress. So instead of “clear trash, kill boss, rinse, repeat”, you will be given objectives you have to complete to move the scenario’s story forward. Yes, that’s right – scenarios are heavily story-driven, much more so than dungeons.

You’ll be able to queue for scenarios, dungeons, raids, and battlegrounds all at the same time in Mists of Pandaria. Scenarios share a common UI with dungeons and raids as part of the Dungeon Finder, and you can check your queue statuses by clicking on the LFD icon next to your minimap.

Check out the previews now for more info and screenshots, and make sure to check back often as we’ll be adding info for more scenarios soon. Stay tuned!

Mists of Pandaria: Wild pets will not be tradeable

Cory Stockton, aka Mumper, has announced that pets caught in the wild will no longer be tradeable and that this will be the case when Mists of Pandaria launches.

We just finished a pass making all pets that are caught via pet battles in the world non-tradeable. This means these pets cannot be put in cages for trading or posting on the AH. We felt that the option to buy these petson the AH would take away from the exploration/collection gameplay of the system. This could always change in a future patch, but this is how it will go out with MoP. You should see the change in our next build.

In pet battles, tradeable pets can be sold on the AH. Training and caging wild pets looked to be a lucrative endeavor, since the catchable pets spawn in various qualities such as poor and rare. Many buyers would have been happy to shell out their gold for a high quality pet that they didn’t have to grind for.

As of right now on the beta, pet spawning locations tend to be heavily camped. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in cross-realm zones.

World of Warcraft: New Pet Battle Site is Live

With the addition of Pet Battles to the World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria beta test, we’ve also launched our all new Pet Battles System website. You can head over there now to read all about the new system, learn how your pets will fight for glory and victory, and look at several screenshots of pets in action.

For all those testing the new system, please join the Pet Battles discussion in World of Warcraft beta feedback forum.

Special Diablo 3 items available for Mists of Pandaria Collector’s Edition buyers

The dedicated Diablo III fans at, uh, Diablofans.com have unearthed some files for the forthcoming patch 1.0.3 that reveal a few neat in-game bonuses, presumably intended for purchasers of the Mists of Pandaria Collector’s Edition:

  • A new Feat of Strength, Panda-monium, which is achieved by registering a copy of the MoP Collector’s Edition.
  • A new banner sigil and accent combo featuring a panda face and some pandaren-style linework.
  • A pair of black demon wings, along with the string “SpecialGiftWingsBuff_name – Collectors Edition Buff.” Unlike the banner options and the Feat of Strength, there’s some speculation that this may not be a MoP CE reward, but the string at least raises that possibility.

If you’re interested in extra items, you might want to consider buying the Collector’s Edition. While the details haven’t been announced yet, Wowhead recently found a quilen mount and pet that may be among the in-game CE bonuses.
