Grumpy that Christmas music is already blaring in the stores? Then take solace in the fact that at least one MMO isn’t prepared to let go of Halloween just yet.
RIFT announced yesterday that it will be adding a few extra days to the ongoing Autumn Harvest event. Previously, it was scheduled to end on November 13th, but after “listening to feedback from [its] players,” Trion Worlds said that the event will now go on through the end of Wednesday, November 19th.
Did you miss out on RIFT‘s Unicornalia event last May? Well, it’s back, according to a post on the fantasy MMO’s website. Refugee unicorns from the Plane of Life require your assistance, and you’ll need to “find the PRI representatives in your capital city to discover how you can help.”
Onyx Unicorn mounts are obtainable via rare drops from the Hooves and Horns event in Moonshade Highlands, as a reward for completing the Rainbow in the Dark achievement, or from the game’s cash shop. Opal Unicorn mounts can be had from daily quests or the store.
Unicornalia runs through July 30th.
RIFT‘s latest expansion is called Nightmare Tide, and Trion producer Bill Fisher says that it will release before the end of the year. The new content will take players into the Plane of Water and will feature new open-world zones, new story quest lines, a new rift type, an increased level cap, and more.
Fisher also mentions RIFT‘s ongoing Summerfest as well as the new Blighted Antechamber Warfront. Finally, there’s a blurb about auction house changes coming in the pre-expansion 2.8 update.
They’re here, they’re horned, and they need your help,” according to a RIFT‘ website update. Trion’s latest in-game event features unicorn refugees from the Plane of Life, who of course require plenty of assistance from RIFT‘s ascended players.
Trion also wants you to know that you can acquire onyx unicorn mounts as rare drops from the Hooves and Horns zone event in Moonshade Highlands or by completing the Rainbow in the Dark achievement. Alternatively, you can buy them in the game’s cash shop. Opal unicorn mounts can be similarly purchased or acquired through daily quests in Sanctum and Meridian.
The event runs through May 29th.
Do you like instanced PvP but hate being subject to the PvP maps that the game’s designers have put together? Maybe you have an idea for an even better map in RIFT, one that would really give even veteran players a run for their money. Good news, Now you can go ahead and make that map a reality with the addition of player PvP dimensions to the game’s cash shop.
PvP dimensions are available as part of two-team or three-team Starter Packs, or they can be purchased individually. These maps also give you access to another personal dimension, but their real purpose is letting you build custom maps with the use of scoreboards, damage areas, invisible tiles, and plenty of other tricks to create a truly memorable experience. If you’ve ever wanted to design an MMO battleground like an old DOOM deathmatch arena.
Move on！ It’s waiting for you !
Trion has sent word that Rift players can now start building their own PvP dimensions with the just-released tools. Players can get their hands on faction banners, kill zones, scoreboards and an ingenious things called invisible tiles and spheres that have the potential for all sorts of nefarious hijinks.
Here’s a look at some of the items you can use to create the greatest PvP arena Telara has ever seen:
Faction Banners and Start Points: Banners in PvP Dimensions allow players to ally themselves with a specific faction (Nightfall, Oathsworn, or Dominion), and Start Points give Dimension designers the ability to set unique spawn points for each.
Damage and Kill Zones: What’s the fun of an arena without dastardly traps and dangerous obstacles? Place a variety of objects that bring pain – or death! – to areas of your choosing.
Scoreboards: Of course you’ll need a way to track winners and losers: scoreboards are here to help.
Invisible Tiles and Spheres: With Invisible Tiles and Spheres you can herd combatants to certain areas or require they make leaps of faith into thin air. The uses for these are absolutely endless!
The Rift v2.6, “Dream Weaver” update is now live across all servers. The update brings the new Dream Weaver profession into the game, a profession that allows crafters to make Dimension-specific items. Dimensions are Rift‘s version of housing. In addition, the Valentine’s themed “Love-Bug” event has also rolled out.
Craft keys for 15 new Dimensions plus water, sparkles, smoke, special items, and object-free lighting and particle effects you can add anywhere you like in your favorite retreats. Not a Dimensioneer? Craft rune-like Dream Orb equipment enhancements that add a variety of bonuses.
The fan-favorite Autumn Harvest event returns on October 17th for 2013. Read on for details.
The Harvest Master Calls
Most of the year Atrophinius is a sot, a lay-about, or a rage-and-mead-fueled killing machine. During Autumn Harvest, though, he comes into his own as the Harvest Master, driving his minions to gather materials from all over Telara and make mead and other delights to last the year. Battle rapacious scarabs trying to devour the harvest, re-steal loot that belongs in Telara, and face off against fellow werewolves and vampires in a Monster-Mash Black Garden befitting the season!
Collect special reward tokens for helping Atrophinius and the Fae to spend on Spectral mounts and other rare loot.
New At The RIFT Store
A host of new outfits and items will be available in the RIFT Store to celebrate Autumn Harvest. We’ll have Halloween masks, limited-edition grab bags and supply crates, a new Dimension plus Dimension items, ninja costumes, and more.
With the latest update to Rift, players can now enjoy the game for free. Empyreal Assault brings the new Dendrome zone, a ten-player raid, a new Chronicle, open-world raid bosses, game performance improvements, and more.
There are no restrictions on levels or content for registered free players; the entire world is open to explore and conquer. The expanded in-game RIFT Store offers thousands of items and services – from faction changes to mounts, pets, boosts, and much more – but the best gear must be earned in-game. For those looking for the ultimate RIFT experience, a subscription is available that offers a suite of awesome “Patron” benefits.
And strike another one off the rapidly diminishing list of surviving subscription MMOs. If there was any sub-based game not called “EVE” or “World of Warcraft” that had a possible, maybe, oh-so-slim chance of surviving with a monthly payment model. If nothing else, Rift had a history of providing generous new content to validate its regular toll. no, Trion have now announced that, as of June 12th, Rift will be entirely free-to-play.
“We have been listening to feedback from our players and watching the continuously developing MMO community, and we are now ready to launch Rift as a premium free-to-play experience,” Rift creative director Bill Fisher said in a statement. “After taking our time and planning a careful transition, we are very excited to bring an enhanced game experience to everyone.”
While new players will receive less starting inventory and character slots, Trion promise that for previous owners of the game – even those who no longer subscribe – nothing will be removed.
June 12th will also bring the game’s 2.3 update, titled Empyreal Assault, adding a new zone, world event, Chronicle and “Stronghold” challenges.
